We're doing a flyout on the 20th to Wichita... to the Cessna factory. About 12 planes going, 25 people or so, about 70% are students. I get to take their new 182 with glass panel heheh wheeee!

LMAO!!!

Flyout sounds like hella fun man...would be cool as hell to see that many small planes flyin over flatlands of Ks hehehehe

I might do a roll back to 2002 heheh <)Smile

heheh this is our 3rd attempt at a flyout since October  Tongue  First one was gonna go to Hannibal MO for their october festival thing, weather prevented. 2nd was Cessna factory last month... weather prevented...  3rd time is a charm I got my fingers crossed  Wink

Hey WildSlash I didn't know you was a pilot, thats cool man! With you, Az, and soon to be myself... I wonder how many other RBL'ers are RL flyers?

Would be awesome to have an RBL flyin somewhere, except we'd have to resist the urge to target each other in the pattern LOL

Hey Tank, if your readin... you're the closest RBL'er to me so you'd prolly be first one I visited on one of my need an excuse to fly somewhere trips, well that and your only like 1.5 hours away  ;D

Azis, you bein way up there in the corner... be a long trip... but I been mapping out various courses to get there, and looks like it be hella fun cross country  ;D

I can't believe they won't let you fly if it's over 12 knots.  It was gusting 35 knot perpendicular to the runway when I soloed.  What do they expect you to do if you have to land someplace really windy one day?

What made it real interesting was the stand of trees at the approach.
You are in the wind, the get below tree level = no wind, then out of the trees = wind back!!!
Made for some really interesting dynamics and required quick thinking/immediate action.  I remember my instructor fussing at me to slam those controls hard, "they won't break!!!"
WOW, what a blast.

Oh and my instructor......and old P-38 Lightning pilot, he was a great man  ^Smile^, died several years ago, I still miss him.
He could tell some stories.  He also flew ...........you know what I'm going to say..........................P-51 Mustangs some ^Smile^.
He said the Mustang was the only plane he ever flew that you couldn't do full power take offs.  It has so much torque it would flip itself over on its back  :o .
If you ever seen the size of a Mustang.......wow, that's a lot of torque.

Lot's of luck on your flying, and as my instructor suggested, you should take some acrobatics courses.
Will greatly improve your skill and confidence.

Well actually I think the instructors do let us without sayin anything  Wink ... the limit I think is what were "told" and on paper for insurance reasons on the flight school... for example the FBO wont let them land on turf either... although rumor is they do on the hush hush heheh

My last couple times up the metars said 10kts... and I swear I had a 30kt perpendicular gust and updraft 200 feet from the runway fence (coming off buildings I think)... because it sure took ALOT of aileron to hold that side down... it was happening every time we crossed the fence (was doing touch and goes), but instructor didn't say hey lets stop winds are too much.... so pretty sure it's one of those legal things with the FBO.

heheh we dont have any trees at my field... but it is on a slope... the south end is 50 foot shallow than the north, and it's a curved slope. You lose sight of the end of the runway when you get about 40 feet off the deck. So those southern approaches are screwy no matter the wind direction... it disappears sometimes when you get down far enough, other times it's swirling off the hangars... makes it interesting. The north end is pretty easy though Wink I'm anxious what trees will be like lol

I aint never seen a Mustang up close, only messed with em on the sims... but I can imagine the torque heheh They sometimes are at the annual KC airshow.

There used to be an old L-39 Albatros warbird on my home field, the guy would give training in it... but that plane got destroyed in a crash while filming a movie a year or so back. It was pretty cool watching him takeoff.

Acrobatics you say? Heck yeah, I can't wait to get my cert and move on to more complex. Heck just being able to fly down and see my folks without the instructor will be a happy day  ;D

How very true lol.  I know this town has an airfield, though there's not charter lines coming in, so I haven't a clue if anything comes in or goes out.  But it's functional so....eh. lol.  I've driven by it a couple of times on deliveries.  Has the spinny light blinding you and everything.

And that's about as far as my knowledge of airfields go. Tongue  It's an east-west facing field surrounded by cropland, but it's just outside of town.

It'd be cool to go up, take some photos from the air of different places and such.  I've wanted to learn to pilot, but I'm not exactly in a position to do so right now lol.

Just as well, I have a feeling I'd get snuck up on by Az and shot down from lagg.  Tongue  ;D

That's good Holmes, you need to practice in the wind, lot's of pilots won't fly when it's windy.  I feel that's a huge mistake, who knows what the weather will be like when you arrive at your destination.

The runway I trained on was small, we always took off east-west because it was downhill.  I wish I could remember the length, was short, very short.  The biggest plane I ever seen there was a Cessna 182 LOL.

It made going to a big airport funny.  I could have taken off on any taxiway.

Good times, good times!!!!

There is a big difference between an 1100 lb Fabric puddle jumper and the lil brick like the 150. The Cub will fly at 30MPH, so at 20knts she goes in the hangar unless ya plan on doin some kite flyin LOL!!!

Quote:They limit us here on the cessna 172's to a 12kt x/wind component (which I think is actually recommended in the manual) at least until we've shown really good proficiency... but some of the students at my field scare me. I was like hmmmm and they are flying a plane?  Huh

There is a VALID reason NOT to let students fly under certain conditions LOL!!!

The 150 felt like a tank in comparison and ours was SOOOO under powered and I never did really get used to trike gear. I only got like 10 hours in the Cesna and bout 40 in the Cub. When I had to start flyin into bigger airports and workin with the towers....kinda turned me off, not to mention I HAD to do all that in the Cesna as the Cub had no radio. Not to mention that was about the same time my regular instructor went to Alaska for the summer to fly a Beaver  :o. He was so cool cuz we actually went flyin more than doin pilot crap heheh. We'd catch thermals over Brush Prarie with the Redtails, work on slipin her in for a landing and cool taildragger stuff  Wink

Trees?!?!? You want trees aye LMAO...we got trees heheheh. When you come outa Daybreak if you go right or left you do good to maintain 100' AGL till you get to about 500' MSL. Nearly all the smaller fields round here have at least a few 100' Douglas Firs round the perimeter. Evergreen, where I trained at, had a 2100ft east/west paved and grass strip with a north/south 1300' that was actually private but usable when needed.
Think you have flown into Daybreak on Sim? WA46 its bout 5 mins from me but only grass and I think 2100'
Goheen/W52 would be next closest and they also have pavement and fuel sometimes heheheh. Woodland/W27 might be the best bet and its not far either, bout 5 miles maybe but 15 min drive.
I actually had a chance to wrench on an Allison V12 that came out of a Mustang when I was at Aerotech in Cheyenne...its amazing those boat anchors actually got off the ground, it easily fills the bed of a full sized Pick-up.

Maybe we should seek out a sim we could all get and do some rebelin Big Grin
I got MS2002 and 2004...NE one heard more on that flight sim X?

I was thinking Scappoose http://www.airnav.com/airport/KSPB  for initial arrival... I enjoy flying at night too so it be hard tellin how late in the day I'd arrive. Top off the tanks there and maybe skirt out to the turf heheh

I think in the cardinal I'd need at least 1900 feet... with 100' trees I'm not sure... the 172's need 1460 at 0C to 1945 at 40C to clear 50' obstacle... I haven't seen a POH for the cardinal yet so I dont know how well it performs short fields. Hopefully I will get some grass experience, I think if I get my own plane, my instructor will be more free to show stuff like that (not being under the FBO rental rules heheh).

Scappoose is in Oregon heheh, gota nice 5000' strip tho I think I used to do touch n go's there. They also have right traffic when north is active. Its only bout 10 miles but an hour drive as the only two bridges accross the Columbia are 20 miles either way of Scappoose. Its also in the middle of no where basically, biz planes fly there then limo to Portland for meetings  <)Smile

Might look at http://www.airnav.com/airport/KVUO. Pearson is in Vancouver right on the river and I-5 Bridge. Its actually the only Class C airport in Class D airspace Wink Big Grin Approach/Departure Contact PDX. Its only a 20 min drive from me too and they have a lil museum there and Fort Vancouver is just up the hill.

Here ya go Holmes heheh...check out the control surfaces  Wink
This is at Evergreen (Where I trained, 59s, which is no longer  Sad No longer listed as even a private field any more and does not have an airport light in the FS2004 LOL) I almost couldnt find it as I had to fly since its not listed. Its only bout 5 miles due east of Pearson.
