Sound not working.....

First go to the Device manager and remove your sound device.

Then shut down the system don't reload the drivers yet.

Restart windows and let it find your sound device on boot up.

If you have the drivers on disk you can then point the pc to them or where ever they are stored on the HD.

Hope this helps.

Right now it doesn't even detect it, so I figure it's just not plugged in fully.

Hmmm, not using onboard sound?

With the onboard sound quality they have these days, I don't bother with sound cards.

Got the onboard sound working fine now.  Just had to download the drivers instead of attempting to install via the CD.

Seems the DVD ROM is either incorrectly installed, or there's an issue with the firmware.  Hard to say really.  Still working on it though.

You may have to disable the onboard sound, dunno if they still use jumpers on the mainboard for this or not, but that used to be the case with Asus. It could be in the bios also I guess. If you have a phone modem installed, it could be causing a conflict too. In this case you can try changing slots and or the order in which you install them.
The manual usually explains quite well.

Looks like quite the "Boat Anchor" u got there  ;D

Nah, the sound is fine now.  Once the drivers were downloaded and installed it worked perfectly.

Pretty sure it's the DVD-ROM.  So far it's told me that my MS Office XP Professional disk was corrupt and unusable, that my HP Photosmart 7150 printer disk was corrupt and unusable, and I don't think it installed SW: Empire at War correctly.  Methinks there's a pattern here....

Ok Death Vader...it's go time!  >:/
