Future of XVT and XWA for RBL
#1
Just curious what you guys think about the following question.  ¤§¤
There is no emotion:  There is peace.  There is no ignorance, there is knownledge.  There is no passion, there is serenity.    There is no chaos, there is harmony.   There is no death, there is only the force-jedi code

Well I think the topic should be the future of XvT and XWA in RBL rather than RBL as a whole. This since we're pretty much actively playing other games now, though I'm not sure how many are.

With xvt and xwa, we already have an IRC server (our chatroom uses it) so that is an option we can definitely utilize regardless. As for the other options they are all viable.

Direct play room on msn would be nice as that would allow a central place for all clans.

If we setup our own "direct play" type of place on RBL then we'd be host to other clans as well, but how are we gonna pay for bandwidth? Nobody clicks ads anymore as I can attest with having ads on rbl for awhile, nobody clicks them so it's not worth having them IMO. If we do donation based, who's going to donate to play an old game? Then again maybe the bandwidth would not be that much since all a direct play room would be host to is the "chat" and the launch part of the game. One other large obstacle with this is finding/writing the code to run on the server that would act as a game launcher.

IP based games arent too hard to do. If we use our IRC server to host "rooms" so to speak (currently any user can create their own room) then whomever wants to host the game publishes their IP in the room etc. In fact this is how the zone works, except it automatically publishes the hosts IP to the others via the launcher.

My vote I think would be first to try and get a direct play room, then go from there... they have direct play support for some games older than xvt on there so I dont see why they wouldnt deny xvt/xwa.
Rebel parts... Imperial parts... All Made on Tatooine!!!

updated the title of the post.  I've heard some grumblings in the zone that I'll post in my news report.  I agree with what you are saying mate.  Hopefully we can get a direct play room in the zone.  If not, I voted for meeting on the rbl forums or on our chat page.  This would only cover our clan though.  Just trying to brainstorm up some ideas because we are getting NO HELP whatsoever from BSC on this issue.  It's gonna be up to the clans to come up with a way to keep the events going.  I'll get into all that later though.  For now it's wow time.

And now that i'll be flying once more, i'll chip in my 2 cents.

Having read everything that Holmes wrote, i'd have to say that in the immediate aftermath of the MSN gaming Zone closing ththe XvT and XWA rooms,  running the WoW matches for XvT and XWA from the IP system would be the best bet. I'm sure that alot of the other clans are scambling like us to find an alternative to the Zone, since we've fought this fight before, and now we're losing it for good, altough i wish it weren't true. Doing it the old school way may be a little more of a hassle, but hey, come on, we're all ReBeLs here, aren't we used to roughing it?

Look at how small we are in comparison to all these other clans, and yet, we do so well against them. That takes skills and alot of heart. If we've got that much heart, we can make it through this and addapt to a new way of doing things without much of a problem.
It's best to watch a furball collapse, analyzing the movements of the enemy. Watch how they maneuver, when they fire, how they break. Visualize your own attacks against those observations, then go in for the kill. Sometimes, though, you don't get that advantage. It's at these times where you go in guns blazing, but keep your head on a swivel.

Weren't these games already moved once to Direct Play on the Zone? Don't know why they wouldn't at least leave that option again. I know windows messenger has an option to launch games from the IM, it may only be for Micky Shaft games tho I have never used it just know of it.
RBL chat room is an easy option also accept it may be hard to get other clans to come and join from there, maybe not dunno.
There was a period where a lot of us met on Yahoo IM before going to the zone also, I still see a few of those RBL names pop up on my Yahoo friends list now and again for that matter.
How many folks are actually left active....50, 75 ?
Sorry if I sound negative, but hey XVT had a hellufa run, let it die with honor and Rest in Peace  :'(
