IT'S ON!!
#1
Hot damn is it on!

Recall that I mentioned in the meeting that I was looking to have a 3D digital image created of the ReBeL Station with Ian Fullwood, the illustrator of the New Essential Guide to Essential Vehicles and Vessels. Here's the previous emails, just so you're all on the same sheet of music.

"To whom it may concern,
I'm with an online gaming group that delves into Star Wars, such as in the Xwing series of games. I was highly impressed with your work on the "The New Essential Guide to Vehicles & Vessels" and was wondering if it would be possible to commission a piece from your company for this gaming group.
It is a space station made up of two seperate stations from within the game, Xwing Alliance, that I created over four years ago. Due to the fact that it was made with LucastArts items I have attempted to contact LucasArts to find out if there'd be any copyright infringement issues, but was unable to make contact. I shall continue to endevour to get in touch with them, however I felt I should find out if you're able to be commissioned, if it's cleared of course.

So here's my question; can you be commissioned to create for private entities, and if so what would your prices be?

I thank you for your time, and may we be able to conduct further business.
"

"Glad to hear you are enjoying the 'Vehicles & Vessels' publication.
My company can take private commissions providing there are no
licensing/copyright infringements. To that end I am in frequent touch
with the licensing department at LucasArt and may be able to assist.

Information I require from you:
Screen grabs/images of the space station(s) in question and their
respective names (images can be sent as lo-res jpegs @ 72dpi screen
resolution)
Information on end use of illustration - i.e. printed material/digital
for web/games/views required/2D or 3D/quantity (plus any other
information pertaining to the use of the image(s) to be supplied).
This will also assist me in assessing the overall cost.

I could forward this initial information to LucasArt and hopefully
receive some form of an answer within a couple of weeks. I would
imagine they would need to discuss this further with you, but his might
get the ball rolling.
"

"I did enjoy the publication and bought it as soon as I saw it. It sits next to the first publication, and both have proven to be useful to have together.

I greatly appreciate your willingness to assist me in finding out if there's any infringements issues. I hope there isn't, but as I'm not sure if the Fair Use Clause of Copyright law would come into play or not, I felt it would be better to just ask permission to use the base images in the creation of the station at the very least. Hopefully there isn't a problem, but one can never tell these days.

I can provide links to all images of the station, all in jpg format, as soon as I get them uploaded to my personal website. There are at least two images 0of the station as a wireframe, two that are filled in, and two that are filled in with text noting different weapons hardpoints, hangers, etc; etc. I should have them uploaded by tomorrow, and I shall send you the links immediately thereafter, along with anything else you may require.

End use of the illustration is simply to provide the gaming group with a professional quality digital image of the 'home' of the squadron for folks to view and enjoy online. To give them an idea of where the squadron 'lives' within the Star Wars universe, which was the original purpose of the image I had created four years ago. I personally wouldn't mind having a printed image, but I understand that does increase the cost, as does shipping and handling. I may reconsider the printing based on cost (once we get to that point), but other than that I don't believe that any printing will be necessary at this time.

Basically, the illustration is for all of ReBeL and other Star Wars enthusiasts to enjoy online or as a desktop wallpaper, if having it online for everyone on the net to see is an issue. I think it would be nice to have it in a 3D view of some sort, but we can be flexible on this.

I would happily provide any contact information that is required for LucasArts to reach me, as well as copies of the original emails I had sent them, if our correspondance is all online.

Here's the images I managed to locate. One was taken in-game of Xwing Alliance, and the other was taken by the member who created the OPT. The others were ones I had mentioned to you in the previous email.

Images with text in them.

I hope that this will be sufficient for your purposes. If you require more, such as the CAD image/file I'll make sure to send that to you...provided that the member hasn't misplaced it.

"Thanks for these, I will check them out, send an e-mail to LucasArt
next week and figure out our price (exclusive of any licensing rights
that may have to be oaid - hopefully none as it already exists, I guess
what we are looking at is an upgrade. That's the tack I will take with
Lucas if that is OK with you.

I'm thinking of 3D (nearly all my current work now done this way) as
that means more viewpoint possibilities (but a more detailed model than
exists already). Anyway let's get the permission first.
"

Alright, we're all on the same sheet now. Here's the latest news, hence my jubilation!

"LucasArt have contacted me to inform me that I can accept a commission to produce digital artwork for the Rebel Space Station.

The artwork can only be used as digital imagery for your online
enjoyment. I can print a few copies for personal use but an undertaking
must be given that these will not be copied and used for financial
gain.

On the basis that this could progress I will cost the illustration
based on a 3D model to provide a variety of viewpoints. Will the
project be funded by a group or an individual?

I will e-mail cost within 48hrs along with terms and conditions.
"

I'm practically jumping up and down here!

Tanker (tangk'er)n. 1. A dusty, crusty, grease-covered, dirty, sweaty, bright eyed, fuzzy faced, haircut-needing, beer-drinking, underrated, over-worked, underpaid, oversexed, little s%#* who can take a Tank and do more battlefield damage in ten minutes than a grunt squad can do all day.

Tell me about it.

I'm going to respond to him after a bit, just need to know how to go about the funding.

It all really depends on cost. If it's like....maybe $100 at most I should be able to handle that (would hurt very heap much still). If it's more than that then I'm going to need some support here. Which you can donate to me directly via Paypal.

Personally I'm hoping it won't be that much. I'm figuring it'll be around $50 or so (actually I'm praying for it lol).

I'll still be the runner for everything, so I'll tell him that it'll be funded by an individual.

kickass dude!!!
It's best to watch a furball collapse, analyzing the movements of the enemy. Watch how they maneuver, when they fire, how they break. Visualize your own attacks against those observations, then go in for the kill. Sometimes, though, you don't get that advantage. It's at these times where you go in guns blazing, but keep your head on a swivel.
