Techie help
#1
Hey there fellas!

I've got a stupid techie issue goin on. My laptop had to be reformatted after it tried to croak on me. I just took it back to factory settings and its alive and (kicking, stupid family clicking "yes" on every darn popup they see!) Anyway... following the reformat, my laptop won't connect to my wireless router, even after putting in the correct network key information. I always get "limited or no connectivity".

Also, at work, my laptop will connect to the network but will not actually access the internet.

Somewhere back in the day I remember having to change a simple setting to fix the wireless issue, but can't, for the life of me, remember what it was.

If anyone has any advice, it would be much appreciated.

Also, happy easter-ish.

What OS version?

Do you have the latest and greatest driver for your wireless installed (usually available on the laptop manufacturers website)?

Its Windows XP (I've really considered hitting it with Windows 7, so far I love 7 on my desktop).
Also no I don't think I've got my drivers up to date, its kinda hard when you can't connect to the internet. Tongue

I'll have to plug her in with ethernet cord and see if I can update her drivers.
Can you think of any settings I might need to change? (going off what I did last time), and thanks for your help Holmes. I loves you.

If you have a USB flash key you could download the drivers with your desktop and just plug em in to the lappy ;D

I do know that some early drivers, and even early XP (you're up to date on service packs right?) had trouble with wireless encryption. Especially with WPA/WPA2. I'm guessing once you get her all up to date it'll probably work fine.

There could be a multitude of other things to try... but given that it's not working for you at work, I'm guessing it's the drivers.

If you are happy with win7 on your desktop, and you're able to load it on the laptop... go for it ;D I loaded 7 on a older laptop at work and it's so much happier with it vs xp... much faster in allot of things too.

Got her fixed as far as wireless is concerned. Updated all drivers relates to ethernet and wireless Big Grin and also reset the router a 12038th time. Hope it fixed the issue at work too. I will find out Tuesday.

Thanks guys.
