Cries of Havoc II: Escalation
#19
"Ok FO form up on my wing.  Nice work getting yourself free.  Hawk Squadron the first wave is taken care of.  All available pilots report in and form up with me and FO.  *gets 9 double clicks back over the com*"

"Hawk 3 to Ace, we lost 10, 11, and 12.  4 and 5 took some damage but are still flyable.  Probability of surviving another attack is roughly 350 to 1."

"Copy thanks Widget, just don't tell me the odds lol.  Ok everyone diamond attack formation.  New comers are 25 klicks out..............wait a second..................the vettes and frigate just jumped out.  The original cruiser we were watching has just jumped too.......what's going on here?  Ok Hawk Squadron scopes are clear, mission accomplished.  Return to base."

Ace lead the squad back to the hangar bay and as he landed his screen went blank as his simulator unit shut down.  After unstrapping and physically getting out of the sim, he heads into the Hawk Squadron office to evaluate the mission.  Upon sitting down at his desk, R2Vader rolls up in front of him and takes his place.  *bang....whizz....whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrr*  Suddenly the holoprojector comes to life and Ace starts to make some sense of the simulated mission his squadron just engaged in.

"Hhhmmmmm not to shabby there R2Vader.  The three ships we lost in that attack were all AI fill ins.  Every living and mechanical member of the unit made it out alive.  But something about that mission bothered me....it seemed way to easy."

"Come come now Ace, surely you aren't doubting the skills of our merry little band are you????"  R2Vader said mockingly in his thin metalic voice.

"Ofcourse not you rust bucket lol.  But we were outnumbered 3-1 and we pulled that off.  Those are good odds against tie fighters but not against skips.  Hmmmm only two likely scenarios I can think off.  First off maybe that mission came from the end of the war with the vong and they were desperate throwing green pilots out there without a yammosk to coordinate their efforts.  Towards the end of the war they were running short on supplies and pilots so that seems reasonable.....or they were screwing with us."  Ace said as he moled over the flight data.

"Maybe the could screw with you............I'm to smart for that."  R2Vader proclaimed.

"That's the only other thing that makes sense.  Before they attacked Coruscant and some of the other worlds they took over, they sent a scout ship to test the defenses.  Green pilots, no yammosk, and an actual retreat on their part all fit into that scenario.  I think that mission was one of the vong test runs.  We did pretty well considering how badly we were outnumbered, but what would have come about if we were actually taking on a seasoned vong patrol........."  Ace said as the reality of the situation hit him.  Rubbing his eyes he noted that the mission took 2.5 hours and 3/4 of the squad did survive.

"Alright you little tin can let's not fret over this, it was a victory for us after all!  Let's go find FO and congratulate him on a very successful run for his first time out with us.  Race ya to the bar............................."

Ace and R2Vader summon FO over the com as they both head towards the bar and grille.
