How the ship is loaded out I think will mostly depend on your playstyle. The upgrades seem almost negligible imo, especially considering the cost. The only upgrades where I've actually noticed it are cooldown reductions and missile lock reduction... the damage increases etc do seem to raise the stats but I do not notice it out on the battlefront.
For turning, they all pitch better than yaw (just like XvT)... so it's best to roll into a turn with the A or D key so that you can then pitch to or away from your target, you'll turn allot faster.
I still hate the controls, flying with a keyboard and a mouse ugh lol
