Re:Put away those fancy lightsabers.... - Simon - 10-04-2004

No clue what was wrong...

With IE you still could log in, with Cute FTP or Mozilla you couldn't.
Now I restarted the server and its running on all three again.

I hope it stays that way...

Gremlins. They messed it up. :Smile

Looks like the gremlins are still busy.

Work around:

get a download manager which can resume downloads:

and get it from my web server:

Well I got a copy here and tried it out. I give it a C+. Keep in mind this was all in single play, I have yet to try out multiplay.

It reminds me alot of Tribes2, only with a star wars skin and an erratic interface heheheh

It's decent to play, just nothing new and it seems they had to compensate the flight dynamics for the ground control and vice versa, thus making neither very optimal. sigh

If your lucky enough to run up on a ship that doesnt take off just before you get to it, you can pilot it. After about an hour of ground combat and flashes of Tribes I was finally able to catch an XWing in another mission. Hit spacebar to take off, and what?! no joystick aaahhh hehehheh. The joystick is not mapped by default, so options screen I come. Then I had a heck of a time mapping my joystick as it has rudder, throttle etc...  so everytime I click on a control to map it would immediately map to either my slider or rudder. bah. after a few minutes fiddling I finally get it halfway mapped out... then back to my flight.

Ah much better, I can steer with the stick. 2 seconds of flight at full throttle and I've got a leaving the battlefield warning, hmph. OK bank right, it seems full throttle really doesnt help anything but to run in circles and try to avoid hitting things.  OK I'll slow it down, tie fighter in my sights, 4 direct hits with my lasers, he gets away... one hit from a tie behind me and I die. *thinks to self, so much for the easy setting* ok respawn, try again finally took out some tie's and a bomber. I get hit again. respawn.

OK lets try those big gun turrets on the landing platforms. whoa these things pack some punch, took out several ties with this bad boy.

Another mission, tatooine. There were some what looked like land speeders on steriods... armed with laser turrets and missles. Great for taking out those walkers. This is my favorite vehicle so far heheh

I guess I had high expectations and was a little let down with the flight engine. All in all it's a good game if you like Unreal, Tribes and Soldier of Fortune you'll like it. Bores easy in single play. I havent tried multiplay, and I imagine it's alot funner with live players, so I wont reserve judgement quite yet heheheh
