These days Star Wars news has been mostly grim. The new movies are disappointing, most of the new games are underwhelming (though fallen order is pretty sick), and the books have been lame. So on to my first bit of news. Disney + has a plan to create something for star wars similar to the MCU. The idea is to have individual shows, including cartoons, do their thing then come together to team up for a fight against a big bad guy. Dave Filoni will be in charge of this undertaking so it has potential!
Now to the main event of the evening!! My force senses are telling me to be optimistic but yet still cautious here. EA and motive studios have announced Star Wars Squadrons for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Videos from the "den of nerds" channel on youtube have shown off some game play.......and things look promising. First glance looks similar to the abortion of flight in battlefront 2.....but after a deeper dive into the footage.......the huds and cockpits look very similar to the x wing series designs. Of course updated for today's visual standards. Word is you can shift power between engines, lasers, and shields like you can in x wing. Deflector shields can be set to front, balanced, back, double front, double back, and again just balanced. This is something bf2 totally got wrong. The flight footage from EA play shows mostly a first person view. Not confirmed but it is believed third person will also be available, but I won't be using that lol. At launch we will have 5 v 5 matches for mp and a fleet battle mode. Also there will be a campaign that can be played from both perspectives. Imperial ships at launch: Tie Fighter, Tie Interceptor, Tie Bomber, Tie Reaper. New Republic ships: X wing, Y wing, A wing, and U wing...(ugh abomination of a ship but they want a support vessel) Possible dlc or later expansions could see a B wing, Tie Advanced, Tie Defender, and most unlikely but maybe an E wing.
To sum up I'm very excited but still cautious about this as it is EA we are talking about here. This is the first dedicated flight space sim since X wing Alliance.......Good lord I hope it's good!
