Persistent universe and private servers too if one wants their own sandbox. Looks like they are using CryEngine3 initially and will be up to CryEngine4 for game launch... very nice game engine but will require some modern rigs to run it.
Looks like it could be fun.

I've got the Mercenary LTI Pack, so I'll have Access to Alpha/Beta, I've tried to mess around in my hanger but it is SO UNOPTIMIZED, that I can barely stand looking at my little ship.
Still, can't wait for it, this is my dream game.
